Elizabeth and Boyd Campbell (along with former partners Brent Liddle and Wenda Lythgoe) started building the Village Bakery in 1988. Opening day was May 28, 1989. This family run business has grown to become a destination for travelers in Kluane Country. We produce fresh baked goods and deli items by hand everyday throughout May to September.
In 1995, an indoor seating structure was added complete with a fireplace and internet connection. This facility and the outdoor deck were also licensed for beer and wine.
In 1997, the smokehouse was built. This establishment is called the "Fish Hook" and is run and owned by Frank Alge. Frank produces the ulimate in cold smoked salmon delicacies. He also produces hot smoked salmon (or halibut), lox and beef jerky.
In 1998, we started doing salmon barbecue's once a week. This popular event is on Friday evenings and is combined with live music featuring the Yukon's best musicians.
In the winter of 2003 we expanded the bakery and more than doubled its size. We now have indoor seating for 12 people, a modern coffee dispensing system, island oasis pure fruit "slushies" on tap, and a dual cash register system with credit and debit card point of sale terminals at each machine.
